KL Airport, preparing for the Maldives

At this moment, Kev and I are sitting in KL international airport, sipping on ice teh tarik trying to pass 8 hours before our flight to Male, Maldives.

We also decided to eat some Malaysian food! Here’s Kev and his roti canai:

To prepare for our time with the Maldives Whale Shark Research Project (MWSRP) team, we are now reading up on things about the volunteer program and about the gentle carpet sharks themselves! (See! Already learning!)

In the months leading up to our time in the MSWRP, Kev and I have been steadily preparing our whale shark kit. These things include:

An awesome 50 SPF rashie for sun protection and for days where there’s plankton around that want to sting us.

Polarized sunnies to look cool in, and to also reduce glare from the water when we are scouting for whale sharks.

Bobble water bottles to filter water so that we don’t get angry stomachs.

… and lots of sunscreen, mosquito repellant, aloe vera.

We have also been in constant contact with Katie of MWSRP who has kept us in the loop with things happening in the Maldives such as the political upheaval in Male and how it should effect us. So far, we just have to be mindful of our surroundings, and to stay at our accommodation until Sunday when we catch our seaplane out of Male to the Southern Ari Atoll. We will be staying under the care of the Conrad Rangali Resort (a major sponsor and supporter of MWSRP). Kev and I are looking forward to the sea plane ride!

So until then folks!
